In South Africa I had stapedectomy operations on both my ears due to otosclerosis. Both operations were successful but after 15 years I started to suffer severe hearing loss in my left ear, coupled with discomfort. This affected my ability to enjoy conversations with friends and other social events.
After an unsuccessful consultation in the United Kingdom, I met Dr Arasa Raj Sinnathuray in Malaysia who organised various tests in Gleneagles KL, and immediately identified the problem, which was due to slippage of the piston from the original operation. He explained things very carefully and gave me several options, including some to try out that might solve the problem without invasive surgery. At every stage I was well informed about the procedure, what risks were involved and what the possible outcome might be. I underwent Left KTP Laser-Asssited Revision Stapes Surgery in December 2012 (the old piston was removed and a new one inserted to re-connect the ear drum to the inner ear). The hospital care and subsequent check-ups were excellent.
Immediately after the surgery the hearing in my left ear greatly improved, and is still good 2 years later. I am happy with the outcome and my quality of life has improved. Thank you Dr Arasa Raj for all your help.
