Pinnaplasty / Otoplasty
This is surgery to correct protruding ears, due to a defect in the ear cartilage affecting one or both ears. Surgery is usually after the age of six as the cartilage is more mature by then. Surgery involves a General anaesthetic, an incision is made behind the ear/s, exposure & thinning of the cartilage occurs to allow it to fold back, stitches placed to pull and hold back the ear/s. Postoperatively a head bandage remains in place for support for about a week when the ears are inspected in the clinic, and then a sports bandage worn at night for about a month.
