Research and Academic Achievements

Dr Arasa Raj won Prize Medals and obtained 1st Class Honours in several subjects in Medical School at the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland.  At postgraduate level he was also awarded several prizes including a Prize at the Sperrin Lakeland Trust Audit Competition (Northern Ireland, United Kingdom) in June 1999, and Travel Grants from the Thomas Wickham-Jones (TWJ) Foundation and Ethicon Foundation (Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland) to attend ear surgical training courses in Germany in 2006.

He has an interest in research and teaching and has published several articles in International ENT journals including the Laryngoscope, International Journal of Pediatric Otorhinolaryngology, Journal of Laryngology & Otology, Cochlear Implants International, and Otology & Neurotology (official journal of the American Otological Society, American Neuro-Otological Society and European Academy of Otology & Neurotology).

(click here) He was awarded Research Grants of over £80,000 from Cochlear Europe Ltd and £5,000 from the Mason Medical Research Foundation to complete a postgraduate research degree Doctorate of Medicine (MD) from Queen’s University Belfast (United Kingdom) based upon Cochlear Implants and Genetics entitled “Connexin 26 (GJB2) Gene-Related Sensorineural Deafness and Outcomes after Cochlear Implantation“.  During this time he passed the Medical Statistics examination at Queen’s University Belfast.  Research from his thesis was published in Otology & Neurotology and Cochlear Implants International, and presented at the American Academy of Otolaryngology annual meeting, the Politzer Society annual meeting, the British Genetics Society meeting, and the Royal Society of Medicine (United Kingdom).  In 2006 he was named in the prestigious Whos Who in the World (Marquis Whos Who, U.S.A).
