Dr Arasa Raj Sinnathuray went to medical school at the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland graduating in 1994. He continued his surgical training in Northern Ireland, UK, and became a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland in 1999.
He was then appointed to the 6-year Northern Ireland (United Kingdom) Type I Specialist Registrar rotation in ENT Surgery. He passed the Otorhinolaryngology, Head & Neck Surgery exit exam, the UK (FRCS (ORL-HNS)) at first attempt, was awarded a UK Certificate of Completion of Specialist Training (CCT) in ENT Surgery, and subsequently admitted to the ENT Surgery / Otolaryngology UK General Medical Council Specialist Register in 2009.
After accreditation as a Consultant ENT Surgeon, Dr Arasa Raj undertook a European Advanced Ear Surgery Fellowship in Hôpital Nord, Marseille (France) for seven months. He worked with Professor Jacques Magnan, President of the Politizer Society and European Academy of Otology & Neurotology.
Dr Arasa Raj undertook a further 9 month European Advanced Ear Surgery Fellowship at Gloucestershire Royal Hospital and Cheltenham General Hospital (UK). During this time he also became certified in the use of the laser for surgical procedures.
During these fellowships he gained substantial experience in all aspects of Implant and Middle ear / Mastoid surgery. Dr Arasa Raj became a Fellow of the European Academy of Otology & Neuro-otology in 2011.
Dr Arasa Raj Sinnathuray returned to Malaysia in January 2011 as a Consultant Specialist ENT Surgeon and was appointed as an Associate Professor at the University Malaya Medical Centre, the oldest medical school in Kuala Lumpur. He was thus an examiner for the Part I and Part II (final exam) for the Master Of Otorhinolaryngology & Head And Neck Surgery, MS(ORL). He was also an invited speaker at the Malaysian Society Of Otolaryngology, Head & Neck Surgery annual meetings in 2012 and 2015 and an Invited Speaker and Course instructor at the European Academy of Otology & Neurotology 2012 annual meeting in Bratislava (Slovakia) teaching on laser cholesteatoma surgery.
In April 2012 he joined Gleneagles Kuala Lumpur as a Consultant Specialist ENT Surgeon. His clinic is equipped with the latest Storz HD Endoscope system and Leica HD microscope system with recording and playback facilities. He has introduced several new surgical techniques to Malaysia for patients with ear disease including the Med-El Electro Acoustic Stimulation (EAS) Cochlear Implant for combined Electrical stimulation and Acoustic amplification, KTP Laser-Assisted Cholesteatoma surgery, KTP Laser-Assisted Revision Stapes surgery, Vibrant Soundbridge Middle Ear Implant with a Vibroplasty Coupler, Posterior ear canal reconstruction with a Titanium plate, KTP Laser-Assisted Ossiculoplasty (using a Kurz titanium prosthesis) and Canalplasty.
Dr Arasa Raj Sinnathuray is fully trained to deal with all aspects of Ear, Nose and Throat disease in children and adults by medical treatment or surgery. Aside from ear surgery his sub-specialist interests are in snoring surgery, sinus surgery, and facial cosmetic surgery (rhinoplasty and pinnaplasty / otoplasty).
